Update #3

I have got the approval to move forward with using SCVNGR as a proof of concept for future use. We are also looking into some open-source alternatives. I have decided which challenges I will use in the library:
  • Go to the Reference Desk and scan the book location guide
  • Use the library catalog to find the following DVD: 10 Things I Hate About You
  • Use the library catalog to find the following book: Giant early man from Java and south China
  • Go to the desk place where you check out books, and find course reserves
I have my account activated and have been doing some test challenges with the app. I will be building the challenges today or Monday and it will go live. I have 3 or 4 people lined up to test this next week. They are student workers and colleagues of mine who work at the library.

  1. This sounds like a lot of fun. I am happy to be a "tester" if you like :-)

    1. Sure, that would be great. Everything is now set up. You'll need the SCVNGR app and a QR code reader (both are free). I'll be in the library tomorrow and Wednesday, so email me if you have time to take a look.

  2. Looking forward to hearing how the testing went. I wrote a paper on the use of these two in geography-recreation combo courses where it gets students out of the classroom and adds recreational sports such as walking-hiking to the coursework. The researchers added hidden assessments among the tags with text this number with answers to add to the course. So, how did it go?
